The Many Different Forms of Poetry
Poetry is as diverse as any other form of art man has taken a liking to.
Aside from typical rhyming poems that one person may write another on anniversaries and birthdays,
there are many other less known, but quite important, styles that have contributed to the vast library we enjoy today.
Shakespeare, for instance, composed a vast collection of sonnets,
while the great American poet, Walt Whitman, enamoured us with his sophisticated free verse poems.
Below are explanations of these, along with the many others, as well as examples wherever appropriate and possible.
We invite you to browse this list at your leisure.
